Initial preparation works have begun at land north of Horsham, Legal & General announced on 7 October 2019.
The land north of Horsham site has outline planning permission for 2,750 homes, 500,000 sq ft of new employment space, an education campus and sports hub, along with new pedestrian, cycle and road connections. The site was acquired by Legal & General from Liberty Property Trust in December 2018.
On Monday 7 October, work will begin to carefully remove hedgerows on the north side of the A264 / Rusper Road roundabout before construction of an improved roundabout starts in early 2020. The improved roundabout is key to the delivery of the new Bohunt Horsham School on the site. A planning application for the new school was submitted by the Department for Education in August 2019 and the school is expected to open in September 2021.
The hedgerow removal is being undertaken under a licence from Natural England which requires the works to be completed in October. A temporary fence will then be installed to replace the hedgerow and secure the land in preparation for the main construction works beginning in 2020. New hedgerows and other landscaping will be planted as part of the future works.
Archaeological investigation is also underway between the harvest and new planting seasons and works are progressing well. No other construction activity will start on site until early 2020.
Legal & General will be holding drop-in events before the end of the year for the local community to meet the team, ask questions, and find out more about what is planned at land north of Horsham. More details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
